Sideways là một cái nhìn tinh tế và hài hước về lứa tuổi bốn mươi, lứa tuổi bắt đầu định sự thành công của đời người. Up mở màn là cảnh cậu bé Carl với chiếc nón và kính phi công, ngồi trong rạp phim để chăm chú nghe kể về nhà thám hiểm Charles Muntz .. rồi lại xoay vòng đến cảnh cậu nhảy chân sáo trên đường, đầu vẫn ngập những suy nghĩ về những chuyến thám hiểm, tay vẫn nắm chặt quả bóng xanh "The spirit of adventure" ...
Rồi đến cảnh gặp nhau bất ngờ giữa cậu bé Carl và cô bé Ellie .. cùng niềm đam mê thám hiểm South America và cả Paradise Fall.. mà trong ý nghĩ của trẻ con thì .."It's still America, but South" ... Điều Albel thích ở Ellie là cô bé thẳng thắn và có gì đó lấn lướt Carl ... mọi thứ đều phải .."Cross your heart! Cross your heart ??? " .... nhưng khi đến thăm Carl bị gãy tay thì lại rất "dễ thương" ... "You don't talk a lot. I like you"
Trong khi Carl hiền lành, ít nói bao nhiêu thì Ellie lại nghịch ngợm và liến thoắng bấy nhiêu. Họ lớn lên bên nhau, yêu nhau và kết hôn như bất kỳ một chuyện tình lãng mạn nào. Họ cùng mơ về một gia đình đầy nhóc trẻ con, sống vui vẻ đầm ấm bên nhau trong một căn nhà nằm bên ngọn thác… Thiên đường.
10 phút kế tiếp của film chỉ là những cảnh trong yên lặng, mô tả lại cuộc sống của Carl và Ellie.
Dù Carl chỉ là người bán bóng bay, Ellie là người trông vườn thú nhưng họ vẫn hạnh phúc, dành dụm từng đồng bạc nhỏ để thực hiện giấc mơ. Những chuyến đi ấy cứ ngày một xa, khi hộp đựng tiền xu để dành cứ bị đập ra để sử dụng những khi nay thì ô tô hỏng, hay khi Carl gặp tai nạn, rồi thì căn nhà bị hư do cây ngã . Chiếc bình đựng tiền xu cứ sắp đến ngày đầy lại bị đập đi. Cho tới ngày Ellie đã không còn đủ sức thực hiện cuộc phiêu lưu.
Và rồi chỉ còn mình ông cụ Carl nay đã già lụ khụ sống trong căn nhà gỗ đầy ắp kỷ niệm. Ellie đã mất, con cái thì không có, nhưng ước mơ du hành đến ngọn thác Thiên đường thì vẫn còn nguyên vẹn.
Carl vẫn chưa có ý định đến Paradise Fall nếu không có chuyện ông bị ép phải rời khỏi căn nhà của mình để đến viện dưỡng lão .. Trong vòng 1 đêm .. cột thật nhiều bóng bay vào căn nhà của mình .. "bứng" ngôi nhà bay lên với một khí cầu khổng lồ .
Thật sự coi hết bộ film này thì điều cảm thấy vui và đọng lại là chuyện tình yêu của Carl và Ellie. Chỉ có 10 phút qua thôi nhưng những gì diễn tiến sau đó cũng bổ sung thêm cho duy 10 phút này. Họ có ước mơ cụ thể đi thám hiểm ở South America, đến Paradise Fall nhưng đối với cuộc sống hiện tại, họ luôn sống hết mình và vui vẻ với những điều mình đang có.
Không may mắn có con, Carl và Ellie hài lòng với công việc được tiếp xúc, chơi đùa nhiều với trẻ con. Cuối tuần, họ đều cùng nhau lên ngọn đồi nhỏ, nằm ngắm mây trời và cùng tưởng tượng. Họ chia sẻ với nhau từng phút giây bình dị nhất: khi lau cửa sổ, khi uống cà phê, khi sơn phết căn nhà gỗ hay khi xem lại những bức ảnh cũ…
Thực hiện chuyến đi này, Carl mong muốn thực hiện ý nguyện của ông và Ellie, đem ngôi nhà họ để cạnh bên Paradise Fall ... Nhưng Carl chỉ thực sự tìm lại chính những gì là mục tiêu sống của ông .. điều ông mong muốn .. khi đọc lại cuốn nhật ký của Ellie ... với câu viết cuối dành cho ông .."Thanks for the adventure. Now go have one of your own"
Khi đến được Paradise Fall, sự thất vọng đến với Carl khi ông phát hiện ra vị anh hùng thuở bé của mình Charles Muntz - không phải là một người thám hiểm đáng để thần tượng. Ellie và Carl luôn coi Charles là thần tượng .. nhưng đến khi gặp rồi thì thất vọng khi con người đó chỉ thích sưu tầm hay giết động vật quý hiếm, để chứng minh cho những điều gọi là "danh dự cá nhân" mà bất cần có làm nguy hại ai hay không...
Cùng đi với Carl trong cuộc thám hiểm này là cậu bé Russel - người đồng hành bất đắc dĩ. Còn nhớ cảnh Carl đang ngồi nghĩ trong căn nhà bay "Flying House" của mình với suy nghĩ sẽ chẳng còn bị ai quấy rầy thì đột nhiên nghe tiếng chuông cửa. Ông ra mở cửa ... và .. ông ngạc nhiên đầy sửng sốt ..
Russell đã tua đi tua lại những câu nói đó với Carl chỉ mong Carl nhận lời để cậu bé giúp ông .. để nhận một huy chương danh chự vì đã giúp đỡ người già ... vì để mong .. bản thân cậu nhóc có thể được "thăng hạng" .. để bố có thể giữ lời hứa dành thời gian cho cậu ...
Và nhắc nhở chút khi nói đến Dug, chú chó biết lựa chọn cho mình người chủ tốt, việc nên làm .. Có thể dưới góc nhìn khác, việc làm của Dug là vì cậu bị những con chó khác trong đàn coi thường khi phải đeo vòng cổ xấu hổ? (Hay gì đó, Albel không nhớ ^^) .. nhưng quay lại những gì Dug đã giúp mọi người thì .. cậu làm vì "I like you temporarily!" ... heheh ... Cái con chó này cũng quái, cả đàn "chơi" nó, bắt nó một mình đi tìm con chim 7 sắc cầu vồng .. đến khi thấy con chim rồi thì không lo bắt .. lại đi van xin "Won't you please be my prisoner, please please please"
Up là một chuyến phiêu lưu kỳ thú, và đã kết thúc. Nhưng chuyến đi ấy không chỉ thay đổi cuộc sống của các nhân vật trong phim, mà có lẽ còn lay động cả nhiều khán giả. Đó không chỉ là câu chuyện về tình cảm vợ chồng, gia đình, bạn bè .. người lớn, trẻ nhỏ .. mà đó còn là câu chuyện về ước mơ .. biết điều mình muốn làm là gì .. và làm điều mình muốn là như thế nào (If you want you will win. You can win if you want)
Lời thoại bộ phim theo đúng chuẩn hoạt hình ... không nhiều .. nhưng dễ hiểu và khá vui vẻ, hài hước. Hình ảnh trong film cũng được trau chuốt kỹ lưỡng ... đẹp và sắc nét ...

Lấy bối cảnh ở Đài Loan vào năm 1994, You Are The Apple of My Eye (tên gốc là Những năm tháng ấy, cô gái mà chúng ta cùng theo đuổi) là câu chuyện về nhóm bạn thân gồm Kha Cảnh Đằng, Lão Tào, Bột Khởi, Cai Biên, A Hòa trong những năm tháng cấp ba cùng thích cô bạn cùng lớp xinh xắn và học giỏi - Thẩm Giai Nghi. Trong nhóm, Kha Cảnh Đằng là học sinh cá biệt và bị xếp lên ngồi phía trước Thẩm Giai Nghi để cô kèm cặp. Một hôm, Cảnh Đằng chịu phạt thay cho Giai Nghi và từ đó, cô nữ sinh ưu tú bắt đầu giúp đỡ chàng nam sinh cá biệt học hành tử tế hơn.
