Howard Stark đă làm được quá nhiều việc trong một đời người. Sinh năm 1917, Stark là một thiên tài công nghệ, sáng lập Stark Industries và trở thành một đại gia trong lĩnh vực chế tạo vũ khí. Chưa đến 30 tuổi, ông đă có nhiều hợp đồng vũ khí với chính phủ Mỹ và là một tỷ phú.
Trong Thế chiến thứ 2, Stark tham gia cả dự án Manhattan và dự án Rebirth của SSR, giúp sức cho Captain America đánh bại HYDRA. Sau chiến tranh, ông t́m được Tesseract dưới biển sâu và là một trong những người sáng lập ra S.H.I.E.L.D.
Năm 1954, Howard Stark lập ra Stark Expo, một hội chợ công nghệ hàng đầu thế giới. Stark tiếp tục nghiên cứu vũ khí phục vụ cho nước Mỹ trong Chiến tranh lạnh.
Khoảng những năm 60, 70, Howard Stark bắt đầu nghiên cứu công nghệ ḷ phản ứng h́nh cung (arc reactor) cùng Anton Vanko, một nhà khoa học Liên Xô đào ngũ. Anton Vanko cũng là một thiên tài nhưng không lâu sau đó th́ ông ta bị trục xuất về nước v́ tội buôn bán thông tin mật.
Fun fact: Trong truyện th́ Anton Vanko mới là kẻ thù của Tony Stark, không phải con hắn.

Từ đó trở đi, Obadiah Stane trở thành cộng sự thân tín nhất của Howard Stark. Howard có nhiều hoài băo với ḷ phản ứng nhưng tŕnh độ công nghệ đương thời khiến ông không thể đạt được. Trong khi đó, Obadiah luôn hướng Stark vào việc chế tạo vũ khí, thay v́ chạy theo công nghệ ḷ phản ứng khá viễn vông.
Năm 1970, con trai của Howard Stark là Tony Stark ra đời. Có lẽ sự bế tắc với ḷ phản ứng và chuyện của Anton Vanko đă làm Howard trở nên khó chịu. Trong thời Thế chiến, tính cách của Howard cũng y như Tony Stark bây giờ, một tay chơi đào hoa. Thế nhưng, trong những năm cuối đời, Howard Stark luôn khó đăm đăm, đối xử cộc cằn với con.
Khi Howard Stark mất vào năm 1991 do tai nạn xe hơi, Tony Stark thừa kế Stark Industries khi mới 21 tuổi. Anh tiếp tục phát triển tập đoàn với sự giúp đỡ của Obadiah Stane. Tony Stark luôn nghĩ cha ḿnh rất ghét ḿnh, cho đến gần 20 năm sau, khi anh xem đoạn băng ông để lại.
B́nh luận: Howard Stark có con vào năm 1970, khi đă 53 tuổi, nghĩa là rất trễ. Con trai của Anton Vanko cũng trạc tuổi Tony, dù Vanko trẻ hơn Howard khá nhiều.
Fun fact: J.A.R.V.I.S. là Just A Rather Very Intelligent System. Nhưng Jarvis cũng là tên người quản gia cũ mà Tony Stark rất yêu quí. Tony đă đặt tên theo ông này, c̣n cái tên kia được nghĩ ra sau.
