Khi một chủng tộc ngoài hành tinh tên Mimic xâm lược Trái Đất, không đội quân nào trên thế giới có thể chống lại tốc độ, sức mạnh của bọn chúng và khả năng thấy trước tuơng lai của tên chỉ huy Mimic. Trung tá Bill Cage (Tom Cruise) là một sĩ quan chưa một lần ra chiến trường, cho đến khi anh bị giáng chức và bắt tham gia vào một nhiệm vụ không khác ǵ tự sát, đặc biệt là khi anh chưa được huấn luyện chiến đấu và làm quen với trang thiết bị. Cage bị giết chỉ sau vài phút tham chiến, nhưng không ngờ anh lại thức dậy vào buổi sáng ngày định mệnh đó, và buộc phải chiến đấu rồi chết đi vô số lần.
