The Flash TV Series Trailer: 32 Flash Facts and DC Comics Easter Eggs

The 5-minute trailer for The Flash TV series is so loaded with nods to the DC Universe that it will make your head spin.

This article contains potential spoilers for The Flash TV series.

The Flash TV series is coming to the CW this Fall. Tuesday nights at 8, to be specific. The Arrow spinoff released a five minute long trailer showcasing plenty of footage from the pilot episode. But more importantly, it's loaded with quite faithful representations of the best known elements of Flash's story...and hints about some potentially obscure ones that should make fans very happy. Here's what we've found...

Meet Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison), Barry's ill-fated mother, and all-around inspiration to the boy who will one day become the Flash.

Speaking of "ill-fated," the gentleman being led away in handcuffs here is Dr. Henry Allen, Nora's husband, Barry's dad...wrongfully accused of Nora Allen's murder.

See this strange effect with the water? You're going to see it again...and it's quite significant.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting your first genuine on-screen representation of the Reverse-Flash (or Zoom...or whatever they're going to call him). This is the blur that Barry witnesses attacking his mother, which the elder Mr. Allen then gets the blame for.

That shower of sparks in the background is a speedster (probably the Reverse-Flash) vanishing into the speed force, the time stream, or through a dimensional barrier. Why did he deposit Barry so far from the crime scene? We have our suspicions...

That's Law & Order's Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. Leaked character descriptions call him "an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence."

Barry Allen doing his CSI thing. On the left is Detective West, on the right is Patrick Sabongui as Captain David Singh. That's Al Sapienza as Detective Fred Chyre in the middle. No shortage of Flash supporting characters from the comics on this show, that's for sure!

That's Candice Patton as Iris West, the love of Barry's life...telling him to get a girlfriend. Ouch.

Here's a better look at Barry's board detailing his quest for his mother's murderer. We caught a glimpse of this in the Arrow episodes that Barry guest-starred on.

There's that strange effect with the liquid again. It seems to indicate the presence of something...the speed force? Another speedster?

There's that STAR Labs particle accelerator blowing itself to bits. Note the shockwave spreading outwards. Surely, there will be consequences...

Oh, there are consequences alright. Presenting one of the most iconic origins in the history of comics! You have to admit, this looks great.

In addition to the shock of the lightning and the chemicals, what is this red blur that seems to pass right through Barry? I have my suspicions, and it's more than just another fun special effect. Serious students of Flash history may have an idea of what I'm getting at. If it's anything even remotely close to that, then this show is definitely taking its devotion to the character to another level.

Meet Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow (Carlos Valdes and Danielle Panabaker). Alright, Arrow viewers already met them. But these two STAR Labs employees will aid Barry in his early, awkward crime-fighting stages. And if you're a fan of DC Comics, you may know that these two have an interesting (and potentially costumed) future ahead of them.

This is Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, "a rock star in the world of physics and the mind and money behind Central City’s S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator. He becomes a pariah after the lab’s explosion, but he charts his path to redemption when he discovers that his failed experiment had the unintended consequence of creating the world’s fastest man." It seems that he may have been the guy who designed that particle accelerator, so in an indirect way, he could be responsible for having granted Barry is powers.

This is a fun nod to Barry's first appearance in Showcase #4 in 1956. Barry first realized his perceptions were altered while sitting in a diner and watching a waitress drop a tray in seeming slow-motion. This is a nice callback to that moment.

Blink and you'll miss this big honkin' Green Lantern easter egg! Yes, Barry tests his speed at an old Ferris Air runway. Please let this mean something down the road...

Even better, there's a STAR Labs van parked on a Ferris Air runway. Take that, Marvel!

Man, they've really updated The Flash's suit for this show, haven't they?

Meet Clyde Mardon, who is, for all intents and purposes, the Weather Wizard. His powers aren't technology based anymore, and he likely gained his powers as a result of the same particle accelerator explosion that gives us the Flash. It seems an easy way to introduce all of Flash's rogues.

This is a huge potential spoiler. During Harrison Wells' narration about how during the explosion "a dimensional barrier ruptured" we see these two objects...which are quite clearly the wings from the original Flash's helmet. Between this and John Wesley Shipp's mysterious role, well, this show might be infinitely cooler than we initially thought.

It would appear that Harrison Wells is hiding some secrets. We have our suspicions of what they might be, but this could be too spoiler-y, even for this article!

These are almost certainly Barry's cold case files. If not, they're evidence files from his mother's murder. Or maybe they're just going after the Weather Wizard. Regardless, we should see about as much police work as superhero work on this show!

Keystone City! Home of various other Flashes, and certainly a site of future adventures on this show, as well. Keystone and Central are like the twin cities of the DC Comics universe, and it's likely they're quite close together. And Starling can't be far off, either...

The magazine Barry is holding is a copy of Science Showcase, another fun reference to the DC Comics title that Barry Allen first appeared in.

Barry Allen seems like such an earnest dork on this show (we mean that as a compliment) that it would be a shock if the superhero logo on this thing wasn't all his idea.

Included solely because it's the best shot we can get of the Flash in motion with all the speed force effects. It looks pretty cool...

Well, we know who will be a guest star in that first episode. The Flash series is clearly going to have a very different worldview than Arrow, but it's still nice to see them handing off the baton, here. Oliver says some pretty revealing things here, notably his line about how the lightning bolt "chose" Barry. Could this have something to do with that strange red presence?

This could be the bridge that links Central City and Keystone City. It's a sad day when I get this excited about fictional city landmarks.

One other notable difference between this show and Arrow. The Flash clearly isn't afraid to operate in daylight! When was the last time we saw Oliver Queen in costume while the sun was still up?

In Flash comic book lore, every now and then, the guy just has to unwind a tornado by running the opposite way against it. It's an iconic use of his powers, and another fine way to show comic fans that this show means business.

This appears to be Rick Cosnett as Detective Eddie Thawne. Remember that last name, folks. This guy is going to play a major role in the future.

Is that everything? What did we miss? Let's talk some Flash Facts in the comments!
