Ngoài dàn diễn viên quen thuộc của phần 1 như Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren và Mary-Louise Parker, Red 2 có sự góp mặt của một số gương mặt mới như ngôi sao gạo cội Anthony Hopkins, nữ diễn viên quyến rũ Catherine Zeta-Jones và tài tử điện ảnh Hàn Quốc Lee Byung Hun.
Dựa trên bộ truyện tranh cùng tên của 2 tác giả Warren Ellis và Cully Hamner, Red 2 là bộ phim hành động, hài hước tiếp nối thành công vang dội của Red (2010) kể về cuộc phiêu lưu của các cựu điệp viên CIA.
Quá khứ lừng lẫy với tư cách một điệp viên xuất chúng khiến Frank không thể an nhàn tận hưởng niềm vui tuổi già bên người vợ trẻ. Ông và Marvin chịu sự săn đuổi gắt gao từ chính phủ Mỹ và Anh sau khi một văn bản nói về sự liên quan của họ tới Bóng Đêm – một món vũ khí hủy diệt thời Chiến Tranh Lạnh – được tung lên mạng.
Các đệ nhất sát thủ như Han và Victoria được mời tới để truy t́m và sát hại Frank, Sarah và Marvin. Đó là chưa kể nàng Katja – t́nh cũ của Frank – giờ đang làm chỉ huy cấp cao của t́nh báo Nga cũng muốn nắm trong tay Bóng Đêm. Không c̣n cách nào khác, Frank đành phải đưa vợ và bạn lên đường chạy trốn và t́m cách vạch trần sự thật về Bóng Đêm.
Có thể nói điểm cộng lớn nhất của Red 2 là bộ phim đă tạo ra một bầu không khí nhẹ nhàng, hài hước, dí dỏm mà gần đây những tác phẩm chuyển thể từ truyện tranh thường không có xu hướng đi theo. Đă có quá nhiều bộ phim chuyển thể kiểu này chọn cách đến với khán giả bằng một câu chuyện nghiêm trọng, nặng nề cho dù cốt truyện gốc có hài hước, dí dỏm thế nào đi chăng nữa.
Tuy nhiên điểm cộng cũng chính là điểm trừ v́ nhiều chi tiết quá... vô lí. Cốt truyện lỏng lẻo, đoạn kết phim hơi "hẫng" và chưa thực sự tạo được cao trào, hấp dẫn.
Tuy nhiên nếu bạn cần một bộ phim để giải trí th́ không có ǵ thích hợp hơn Red 2. Chưa biết bạn có thích bộ phim hay không, nhưng chắc chắn bạn sẽ phải cười suốt từ đầu cho đến khi bộ phim kết thúc!
