Một gia đ́nh chuyển nhà tới nơi ở mới. Tại đó, con gái của họ, Laure, đă cố t́nh đóng giả thành một bé trai, và xưng tên là Mikhael với những đứa trẻ hàng xóm. Qua Tomboy, đạo diễn Céline Sciamma đă thuyết phục hoàn toàn khán giả rằng việc trở thành một cậu con trai có ư nghĩa lớn lao như thế nào đối với một cô gái. Nhân vật chính của phim là cô bé Laure (vai của Zoé Héran) 10 tuổi chuyển tới một thị trấn nhỏ. Dù luôn giới thiệu ḿnh là con trai tên Mickaël nhưng cô không nhận được sự tin tưởng của các bạn cùng trang lứa. Thậm chí, cô bạn Lisa của Laure c̣n có cảm t́nh đặc biệt với Mickaël.
Tomboy mang tới khán giả cảm giác nhẹ nhàng, êm ái qua sự diễn xuất tuyệt vời của những diễn viên nhí.
