Brave xoay quanh nhân vật chính là nàng công chúa Merida, con gái của vua Fergus và hoàng hậu Elinor. Với bản tính ngang bướng từ bé, Merida quyết tâm theo đuổi mơ ước là trở thành một cung thủ, bất chấp sự phản đối của cha mẹ. Tuy nhiên, quyết định của Merida vô tình đẩy vương quốc vào hiểm nguy.

Brave cũng là bộ phim hoạt hình đầu tiên của Pixar được một nữ đạo diễn thực hiện. Brenda Chapman, tác giả của Hoàng tử Ai Cập (DreamWorks, 1998) sẽ là đồng đạo diễn với Mark Andrews, người trong nhóm chỉ đạo nghệ thuật của Cars và The Incredibles ngày trước.
