Phim dựa trên “Tân Long Môn khách sạn”, một bộ phim kinh điển làm vào năm 1992 kể về cuộc chạm trán của một vị tướng quân nhà Minh với một tên thái giám khát khao quyền lực tại một nhà trọ bỏ hoang.

Bộ phim có kinh phí 35 triệu Đô la Mỹ, được quay bằng công nghệ 3D bởi một đội ngũ được Chuck Comisky, giám sát hiệu ứng hình ảnh của “Avatar” huấn luyện... Bộ phim được sản suất trên bộ phim nổi tiếng New Dragon Inn Gate (1982).

Thời nhà Minh, một thái giám với quyền lực mạnh mẽ trong tay, đàn áp các cuộc khởi nghĩa. Ông ta sử dụng quân đội để tiêu diệt các đạo quân còn lại tại Dragon Inn, một nơi trú ẩn cho những tên trộm, sát thủ…Và cuộc đối đầu giữa quyền lực & tham vọng bắt đầu.
