Với bối cảnh xảy ra vào những năm 1930, phim kể về câu chuyện khám phá vùng đảo Sọ người gần Sumatra của một nhóm thám hiểm và những nhà làm phim tài liệu.

Nhóm thám hiểm đó đã chạm trán với Kong và đồng thời những kẻ thù của nó là các con khủng long to lớn. Họ quyết định bắt Kong đem về New York để cho loài người có thể chiêm ngưỡng và câu hỏi đặt ra là liệu bao nhiêu người mới đủ sức để có thể khống chế một con khỉ khổng lồ cao đến 8m đây?
